Abstract:
The castle of Bivona represents – for its monumental and historical interest as much as its archaeological importance and the suggestivity of the site – one of the most significant pieces of cultural heritage in the Vibonese territory. The solid defensive walls, erected on the site of a roman villa and in vicinity of presumable sacred area to preside over the seaport that already existed in the 3rd century B.C., is testimony of its strategic relevance of the site, linked to the control of the harbour and sea traffic.
